Case Study: Dixie Electric Company - Industrial
Floor Repair
Dixie
Electric Company, the third oldest electrical contractor
in Atlanta, recently required industrial floor repairs in
its newly constructed warehouse facility. Dixie Electric
Executive Vice President Jeff Lake hired a local concrete
contractor to repair the floors using several products from
Prime Resins Floor Repair line of chemical grouts and epoxies.
"In the warehouse, Floor Fix 10 Spall Repair Kit was used
to patch areas where the concrete had been cut away," said
Scott Kammerer, Technical Support Specialist for Prime Resins
who assisted the contractor on the repair job.

Engineer's Corner: "Quick-Mix Cartridge System"
Prime Resins "Quick Mix Cartridge System" was
developed for ease of application with minimal waste of
material. This system is ideal for certain manhole work
and tight spaces where you don't want to bring down a lot
of equipment. The "Quick Mix Cartridge System"
is available with many different epoxy and polyurethane
formulations providing a wide variety of applications.
A pneumatic or manual gun is available. The pneumatic gun
can be operated by air compressor, air tank, or C02 tank.
The pneumatic gun is recommended for all applications. The
manual gun is ideal for surface sealing prior to injection,
anchoring, doweling, spall repair and patching.
Cracks or joints should be 1/8" wide or larger for
manual gun injection. The system can be used for large commercial
and industrial projects or for smaller residential jobs.

System," visit http://www.primeresins.com/products/quickmix.php.
The Engineer's
Corner is a section of our website specifically developed
to inform engineers and specifiers of technical updates
and to provide assistance in accessing technical and test
information, service education and documentation for the
specification of our products.

COMMENTARY: American Infrastructure System Needs
Reform, Not Just Cash
Katherine Reynolds Lewis, NEWHOUSE NEWS SERVICE
Money alone won't spare the U.S. another tragedy like the
recent bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Transporation experts
say government must alter its piecemeal approach to investment
in the nation's public works.
"We have the largest civil infrastructure in the world,
but also it is the oldest," said Riyad Aboutaha, a
professor of civil engineering at Syracuse University. "We
do not repair it until it reaches a critical stage."
But if $1.6 trillion fell from the sky to bring roads,
bridges, airports and water systems into good condition
— the amount the American Society of Civil Engineers
says is needed over five years — the nation might
soon face the same issues it does today, experts said.
The problem is the lack of any comprehensive, rational
system. Three separate federal laws authorize money for
airports, highways and water, and different jurisdictions
squabble over whose piece of pie is bigger.
Every year, localities push forward their most urgent projects,
and the state or federal government decides what hits the
jackpot. With 90 percent federal highway financing, there's
a strong incentive for local jurisdictions to wait for the
next year's gravy train instead of tackling projects on
their own, said Everett Ehrlich, who has examined the issue
for the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
"We don't have a system that lets us know which the
best things to build are," Ehrlich said. "The
policies we have were put in place 50 years ago or more,
to get stuff built but not to maintain it."
The stakes are high.
