Resin Pumps and Polyurethane Injection

By Adam Goldstone, Customer Service

LESSONS LEARNED - Wisdom from 24/7 Tech Support

Pump_Blog_CollageI've received a flurry of calls over the past few weeks from contractors regarding pumps.  I have been sharing my own personal experience in regards to available pumps, and it occurred to me that it might be a great subject for the blog.  Prior to my employment with Prime Resins, I worked for a commercial and industrial masonry and concrete restoration company in the upper Midwest for 15 years.  We were awarded a project that included concrete restoration and crack injection on an underground potable water storage tank that was the size of a couple football fields.  There were several thousand linear feet of urethane crack injection to be performed as part of the rehabilitation project.  At that point in time, I had plenty of experience with epoxy injection but didn't have much experience with urethane injection.  Although the principals are similar, the equipment required to install is quite different.

At the time, I was told that an airless paint sprayer would be adequate to install the material; however, I wasn't told specifically which pumps would be best.  I purchased a couple $500.00 pumps from a home improvement big box store that seemed to have the outbound pressure capabilities I needed and sent them to the job site.  We had a few problems getting them primed but eventually got them working.  They performed decently for a couple days and then one locked up and the other followed suit several hours later.  Being on a tight schedule, I hastily picked up a couple more $500.00 pumps from the home improvement big box store and put them to work only to have the same problems again.  Frustrated, I decided to do a little more research on pumps and found that the quality and capabilities of the pumps I had purchased were simply inadequate.  So, I went ahead and purchased a considerably more expensive commercial grade pump from a local vender as my timeline to completion was in jeopardy.  The pump performed flawlessly and I ended up getting another to meet my schedule.

The lesson learned: get a pump that is capable of performing the job and save yourself the expense and pain that I experienced.  The modified pumps we offer at Prime Resins have been tested and proven to do the job and do it well.  They're ready to go right out of the box and our modifications make the pump even more reliable and easy to maintain.  The chemistry behind our Prime Flex Eco Flush has further added to the ease of maintenance and trouble free operation of our pumps.
